Description:

2013 - Calving glaciers in Greenland (matching photos also available) 00:00:00 - Arrival at EQI Glacier - views from boat travelling through the icy water. Close shots of the calving glacier. Eqi Glacier located in West Greenland, near the Arctic circle, going north. EQI Glacier is the fastest calving glacier in the world.Tons of ice are poured into the Arctic ocean everyday. EQI Glacier's location is remote; located on the western flank of the Island, by the Arctic Circle, about 5 hours north of Ilullissat by boat. It is located at the end of a long fjord, only accessible in the summer. The glacier offers rare views of the immensity of the Arctic landscape. Ice, flora, rocks, and glaciers sculpt and model the harsh terrain of moraines (masses of rocks and sediment carried down and deposited by a glacier) and volcanic ash. The area has desert like landscapes which are extremely cold in the winter and make inhabitable conditions - one of the worst on the planet. The images of the calving of the glacier were captured from a boat in the summer of 2013 that travelled about 500 feet away from the ice wall. The glaciers are bathed in morning light. Calving glaciers create mini Tsunamis and can be dangerous for boating, kayaking or living next to its shore; To capture the footage they had to access the site before the high waves come crashing on the rocky shores, making any navigation impossible. Eqi glacer is magnificent in its shapes and colors But it takes close to two days to access from the nearest camp. Another 4 to 6 hours trek with camera and sound, allows one to get close enough to capture the high cliffs and crevasses of a glacier. 3:45 - Views of Jakoshavn Glacier - The sounds are extraordinary sounding like thunder in a clearest day of blue ice and sun. Incredible close ups and wide shots of calving glacier. 6:00 - The aerial images are above the Jakoshawn Glacier which is located south of EQI and close to Ilullissat. Jakoschavn is the fastest shrinking glacier in the world. Masses of ice and Icebergs slowly drifting are seen. Large turquoise pools like big swimming pools sit on top of massive chunks of ice looking like flat skyscrapers, pass by in the always changing landscape. Panoramic views of icebergs drifting south in a dark sea. The beauty is imponderable. These floating icebergs are the consequence of higher temperatures in the Arctic and all over the world which have broken away from the glacier.
