Sports/ThrillsQuebec Boat Race

One hundred years ago, dragging, pushing and rowing wooden canoes over an ice-clogged river was the only way to cross the St. Lawrence in winter. Today, French- Canadian considered it sport. Each February, teams from all over Canada bring their canoes to Quebec City to tackle the river in what has become an annual race across the St. Lawrence. Globe TV profiles one Quebecois team's bid for first place and the tradition surrounding this yearly celebration of "loie de vivre."
