Films of Robert Mugge Global ImageWorks is proud to showcase the newly remastered films of world renowned music documentarian Robert Mugge. Robert Mugge is an American filmmaker and documentarian who has been capturing the essence of great musical performers and performances since the 1970's. Stephen Holden wrote in The New York Times that "films of the documentarian Robert Mugge [are] cultural reference books... Documents of a flourishing below-the-radar-culture...they are archival records as well as entertainments." Gospel According to Al Green may well be Mugge's most well known work. However the collection includes nearly 30 films which cover musical genres like blues, bluegrass, reggae, zydeco and Hawaiian music. In addition to Al Green, performers such as Ruben Blades, Sonny Rollins, Robert Johnson, and Gil Scott-Heron have also been profiled by Mugge. It takes a special kind of talent to capture musical performances, and to excel in it as Mugge has for over four decades. His camera lens brings the music up close and personal for viewers, and details the communities that support each genre. Contact us for clip sales from this very special collection.
